Treasure Hunt Example Questions. Buy with Confidence for You,Your Family/Friends and Colleagues.
Posted on: 24/11/2022By Tim Carter (Owner of Black Cat Treasure Hunts)
When discussing options for a Black Cat Treasure Hunt, I am often asked to provide an example of the type of questions or challenges to expect. In a world of uncertainty, it is nice to have an inkling of what you are letting yourself, friends, family, and colleagues in for before making the decision to purchase one.
Black Cat has nothing to hide..well..not regarding treasure hunt types anyway! Set out below is the style of a treasure hunt followed by real examples. I can`t say fairer than that.
Q19. Who was Dorothy Levitt? (3pts) (a)the first woman balloonist (b) the first woman mechanic (c) the fastest girl on Earth (d) the first winner of Wimbledon
This is a good one for children to track down an answer about someone they may well not have heard about before, but who was actually ahead of her time! This also shows off the multiple-choice style that many of the questions are asked in.
Q22. Go to the West face of the clock tower and look up at it. What mysterious illusion do you notice? (3pts) (a) It goes round and round (b) It changes colour (c) It is going to fall on top of you (d) Nothing...the hunt compiler had too much sun when writing this question.
This one hints at the quirky side of some of the questions and how Black Cat likes to have fun along the way. It is a real question with a genuine answer!
2.
Personalised Hen Party Treasure Hunts focus on three things....the bride to be...allowing the group or teams to get a feel for the place they are visiting and fun/memorable questions/challenges. Here is one challenge and one question to reflect that:(names/photos removed).
".......had an ability to roll her eyes completely into her head, which was a favourite pastime. Childhood likes inc pedal bins, with dislikes being blue tac (could be considered a fear), peas, and she also talked in her sleep (peas and chips were mentioned repeatedly).” Take
one of the following photos or video clips: a bet of any type being won with a stranger by a team mate due to being able to roll their eyes into their head (4pts)..
or..of the whole team pointing to and smiling at a pedal bin (2pts)..
or..of a team mate walking the length of a street with a significant chunk of blue tac stuck on their forehead (3pts)..
or..of a team mate walking (guided) with their eyes closed whilst clearly being fed with chips/peas (5pts)
Q25. In which part of Brighton is the sad eyed lady? (3pts) A description that certainly does not fit these two, although she would not have had the benefit of playing saucy charades and consuming vodka jelly!...better ask ........... for more details about that!
3.
Bespoke Team Building Treasure Hunts follow a similar format to the hen party ones in that they have challenges and questions, but in this instance many more people are referenced with photos and info about them within the questions and challenges. Often a theme is introduced as an alternative to the focus on participants. The first challenge looks at one of the challenges arising from the answer to a question by one of the participants, whilst the second one is on the theme of crime for a company of lawyers!
*..........used to run 100/200 metres competitively for London and as such may have featured in the last challenge, but she also says she had PICA when she was younger. It`s a condition where you have the urge to eat nonedible things! Choose
one team member to `take one for the team` and eat something you consider to be inedible (up to 6pts max). Your judge today will decide how high your score should be and their decision is final. *Black Cat would like to remind you they are not taking responsibility for anyone feeling sick/ill at this stage!

Challenge 1: Alfred`s Hitchcock`s first film studio was based in Shoreditch. Incredibly, Black Cat was assaulted here by 100`s of…pigeons (see left), like a scene out of `The Birds`. To get a max (5pts) take a short video clip of your team in similar peril at this point..
or..To get (4pts) re-create it elsewhere on route..
or..(3pts) for a photo of something you consider to be `Notorious` ..
or..just (1pt) for a Rear Window.
4.
Birthday (and other celebratory) Treasure Hunts can adopt a less rigid style and mix up the challenges and questions depending on the venue. Childrens birthday treasure hunts can even be done in your garden if you are fortunate to have an interesting/largish area of garden and items in it. Of course that is probably the exception so an original route around the nearest town is just as good. The first question with the `alert` and directions below was for teams of children in a garden on a birthday treasure hunt whilst the second question was for adults on an anniversary hunt.
*ALERT! …Each team member should collect one fir cone each from around here. Look after it well for the moment. You will need them for a fun, co-ordination challenge in Zone 2.
Direction: Are things getting too hot for you? Head downwards left just after the fire-pit. Take care going down…no need to rush.
Q13. A riddle: It never moves even when it runs. What is it? (3pts)
*Q15(b) Continue
onto the grass and to the right and in honour of the fact that there are a number of singers here today including ........., find out which old musical composition is being brought to England? (2pts)
5.
Indoor Treasure Hunts came into focus when Covid 19 impacted our ability to leave the house too much. Black Cat Treasure Hunts were doing indoor treasure hunts well before then in such diverse places as the V&A museum, Brighton Sea Life, and a country house.
The first challenge was aimed at a house v house(s) indoor treasure hunt that you could do on a rainy day or night, whilst the one below was from a birthday treasure hunt within the V&A museum.
*3
. Challenge: One of the team take a photo of an everyday object from an odd angle and email it to Black Cat (
with the answer). Points awarded for originality and creating a reaction of “oh yes of course it is” when you can`t guess originally.
*Q1. Majin Buu has several different forms, each with a different appearance and personality. Interestingly the Nature God, Vertumnus could assume any shape! Who is he trying to woo close by? (2pts)
I hope these examples have given you a better idea of what a Black Cat Treasure Hunt is all about, but if you want to discuss it further or you are inspired to start a booking then contact me on:
