How unemployment can be an opportunity rather than a threat. Here`s a Black Cat suggestion!

Back in the day when marketing courses revolved around S.W.O.T analyses rather than worrying about how many social media followers you had, part of it referred to opportunities and threats. With the latest depressing figures out about unemployment it is easy to get swallowed up in the thought that as your sector of expertise/experience/qualification contracts there is only one way to go...and that is apply for any job whether you like it or not however bad it looks. Black Cat is here to tell you/reassure you that this is not necessarily the case and indeed I am here to offer a tiny step in the right direction!

Black Cat has been in this situation before back in 2011/12. My job had been discontinued and I was left in limbo. After a few near things at interviews back in the sector I was in before the job loss (in a new area that I didn`t actually like as it had turned out!) I needed to make a more radical decision. The idea was to become self employed which was definitely a new venture for me. To cut a long story short I developed Black Cat Treasure Hunts, but also did a little bit of part time invigilating work,coffee delivering and sports coaching for visiting Austrian students. The message is that I did things that I either enjoyed or filled in some gaps rather than looking for the one job to fill in for the one I lost. As the analysis would have said...the threat was unemployment, but the opportunity was to take on different and more enjoyable things across several areas to protect you in the future.
The `S` and the `W` of S.W.O.T. stand for strengths and weaknesses. Obviously only you know how that applies to your situation.The best plan is to try and think how your strengths are transferable to other jobs and if there is anything you can do to lessen the impact of your weaknesses? Sometimes getting the break  to show what you can do is the hardest part however. Black Cat is willing to give you a chance to earn a bit of money whilst you begin your job search properly.(whether employed or setting up self employment).
